You see borough neighborhoods with a variety of housing stock. you see public parks. wetlands along the shoreline. industrial areas. remote areas. massive cemeteries with a highway right above or beside them. A really well-done film! Question for the film-makers. at least in this preview clip, is it possible I saw a shot of the cemetery located on the grounds of the Lent-Riker Smith Homestead in Elmhurst? It's too bad a mention of that famous house didn't make it into the movie...

Duration: 93 M Abstract: Cunningham is a movie starring Carolyn Brown, John Cage, and Ashley Chen. The iconic Merce Cunningham and the last generation of his dance company is stunningly profiled in Alla Kovgan's 3D documentary, through recreations of his year: 2019 Director: Alla Kovgan 7,1 / 10 star.

This is amazing music, so technically impressive and soulful, its like a modern joni mitchell. Sara cunningham free mom hugs. 1) he's wearing grandma's ear rings, she didn't know? BS! the gay-gay dude looks like Malcolm X from a alternate universe. 2) is she preg? not a good visual in lingerie. Bill cunningham free throws. A remarkable achievement by filmmaker Alla Kovgan, spending seven years to make this classic tribute to the late dancer/choreographer Merce Cunningham.
Working with both archive footage and valuable sound recordings, she conjures up the avant-garde artist through recordings of his work, his philosophy of his art and comments by many close collaborators including notably John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg. Not meant as a biopic, film concentrates on spectacularlhy cinematic (in 3-D) new performances of many of his dances, executed by members of his company, which disbanded in 2011, after Merce's death in 2009.
At a q&a following the screening, Kovgan indicated that Wim Wenders' innovative 2011 3-D dance film about German choreographer Pina Bausch inspired her to take on this formidable project, finally starting shooting in Stuttgart in 2015 with principal photography taking place in 2018.
Her use of 3-D technique is outstanding, resulting in gripping visual images, enhanced by the accompaniment of the original dance scores by John Cage and others. For a novice like me, not overly familiar with Merce's achievements, the movie brings his dance to life and points to how 3-D technology can be used artfully rather than as a gimmick, or its current excuse to permit higher price points for movie admissions to films, both animated and action-oriented, that should play just as well if not better in 2-D on large screens.

I love that you finished the Cunningham, totally impressed. Level 1 He got that mean playstyle from you Kobe! His influence will always be felt on the NBA. level 1 Kobe had so much praise and respect for Harden and Westbrook. Something tells me that we were his second favorite team this year. level 1 Russell literally just hustles every single game and everyone just thinks averaging a triple-double is somehow something to bash him for. Crazy. level 1 Yeah I can see that. Though I think Kobe knew how to control that “mean”. Sometimes Russ can get out of control. level 1 So when I had floor seats earlier this year, I noticed Westbrook is INTENSE. He sat apart from the others because he seemed to want to be super focused on the game. level 1 Not to take anything from westbrook, but last night, Dame reminded me so much of Kobe. He didn't care about the festivities, he just fucking balled. Houston Rockets NBA Houston Basketball Reddit Inc 2020. All rights reserved.

Level 1 all of x's team fucking hates us lmao level 1 Definitely would love to see another john AMA level 1 judging by his last comment i dont think he likes us anymore level 2 Would you please explain? Do you mean a comment from discord maybe? level 1 It's pretty obvious that dude is done with this community. Dont blame him a single bit either. The vocal minority here is toxic as fuck. Complaining that a dead dudes music isnt as good as his music when he was alive, like their bitching will change ANYTHING. John has been a legend. Over the months I literally cringe reading some of the posts here imagining John reading them. I cant believe he made it as long as he did in this place. We dont deserve shit. level 1 Pretty sure this sub has fucked and still fucking its self when it comes to John and Cleo doing an ama again. Half the posts here have basically been about how much they hate cleo, John and xs team level 2 You're right. Hope they see there is still some love here level 1 judging by his comment on my post a few weeks ago he didnt seem very happy with us and idk how quickly he would be jumping to be doing another AMA level 1 You're Thinking Too Much, Stop It 3 points 13 days ago Dear Mr John Carter Cunningham, stop playing games with us. level 1 He probably figures since he did the discord thing he doesnt need to.

Watch Brett Farve come out in a few weeks lol. level 1 Nice dude. Im not sure if I wanna drop the 900k on one but Id look about the same. level 2 Thanks man, working towards the 50/50 competitive lineup. I hear you though, its hard to say where his price will fall. level 2 It's not worth it. Snagged him for 750k when he came out and end up selling for 998k bc not being able to have escape artist and roaming deadeye is a huge blow. Roaming deadeye is really op as u can get deadeyes on throws on the run by manipulating it and it's so easy. They should just do away with escape artist it's so stupid bc it's a must have ability or you're slow af behind the line of scrimmage but as soon as you cross that imaginary line you're automatically Usain bolt. Sucks bc I love Cunninghams release but il stick with the 91 and use him in Taysom Hill package level 1 Lookin nice! What abilities did you put on him? level 2 Safety valve, gutsy scrambler, and escape artist level 1 How much training did it take to get him to 94 level 1 Lmao Id probably end up copping too... its been a drought man, we still need a few more pieces but I cant complain rn. level 1 I am waiting for the price to drop I made one and sold him for the profit his set was way cheap this morning level 1 I had quite the stack saved for harvest and didnt like any of the cards so I didnt mind, but that wouldve definitely been the better route.

Agreed, Jaime Harrison raising more money than Cunningham is somewhat troubling. That being said, Cunningham's numbers are still decent, and North Carolina is much, MUCH more likely to flip than South Carolina, so Harrison may need the huge fundraising more. Free cunningham coat of arms. Dante cunningham free agent. Free mark cunningham hypnosis. Level 1 This seat's results will probably be close to mirroring the presidential race. Hopefully Democrats can win both. level 2 Competitive North Carolina races does seem to end up in close margins most of the time. Like how Trump won in 2016 while Roy Cooper also won in 2016. I think it can be very possible for the Senate and Presidency to go different ways. level 1 Read Tillis' number at 32 at first, was way too excited lol level 2 Stay on on target level 1 Would there be any change of Trump winning the state but Cunningham getting the Senate seat? level 2 Cooper won the governorship in 2016 while Trump won. It is not likely, but definitely not impossible. level 1 As far as I'm aware Tillis has not been ahead in any hypothetical poll thus far, although they've all been close and have all had a modest amount of undecideds. Not a good sign for an incumbent going against an opponent who still has a lot of room to grow in name recognition. level 2 Tillis barely unseated Kay Hagan in a good year for the GOP. He won by 1% and his approval has been in the toilet for a long time. I think people are really sleeping on this race and it's one of our biggest pickup opportunities this year. If someone like a Joe Biden is our nominee, he'd likely take NC and Cunningham would probably win by a wider margin than if Sanders gets the nominee. I do think Cunningham will win, but the margin will depend on our nominee.

Perfect timing imo. level 1 man i love john. he‘s doing so much for us 🖤 level 1 Whose idea was it to add X's old verse, from I wanna say 2015, onto Daemons? I was very disappointed to hear that when we all know how much jahseh grew and overcame. level 1 Soon to be Mr. Cum in Hand.

Just the Kmart version of what classical class can give you. I have studied all genres and danced a professional for 30 years. This is a waste of time. Level 1 I like how this is the first game its posted on r/nba when hes been out for the past 6 games. level 1 Is this sub just realizing he's been injured since the Clippers game? level 2 No but you know thinking isn't everyone's strong suit on here. level 1 D'Lo isn't playing tonight either. Coincidence, I think not! level 2 Dude just got back from getting butt KOed, let's hope this isnt a jets like situation level 1 So are we scoring over 80 points tonight? level 2 Nets are a 4. 5 favorite and an o/u of 218. 5 I smell some money level 2 KAT's been hurt since the Clippers game, Wiggs had flu-like symptoms last game so it's probably the same level 2 Comment deleted by user 1 month ago ( More than 1 child) level 1 Were still losing. Im not even going to be shocked if we lose. After that loss last Thursday, anything is possible. level 1 Lmao Kats not leaving minnesota level 1 What's wrong with KAT? I have him on fantasy so I know he's been injured all last week but he's been day to day the whole is he not back by now? level 2 Bruh idk he started the first like 200 something whatever games of his career and then he literally got into a car accident and was back in like 3 games and now he has some ambiguous knee injury and he's been out for 6 games with no update on his status it's really weird level 2 Hes been out for like 5 games straight.

Warning: Some of these choices may be controversial, but remember that this is just some twat on Reddit's opinion. Nothing more. Anyway, all of that said, MGS is kinda renown for its' quirky, zany boss fights with equally quirky and zany characters, but let's not beat around the bush, some of 'em kinda suck. Some have immediate go-to games with what they consider shit bosses, others don't. Me? I don't give a shit a boss' personality. Having an iconic personality doesn't make a boss fight. It's how any boss actually plays out. Do the controls work in your favor? Are the skills you've amassed actually coming in handy? And are you having fun? Feel free to disagree, but these are the bosses across all the MGS games that didn't do it f'er me, with 12 being tolerable and 1 being a pure "WTF" as well as what I think the solutions could've been to make these fights genuinely great: 12) The Fear (MGS3. This isn't a bad boss. I still have a save file for it, and it's pretty fun. It's just insultingly easy, and a massive missed opportunity. The entirety of the opening cutscene makes that poison bolt feel like it's gonna factor into the boss fight, like mess with y'er perception and make you see shit. But after 2 minutes of Grandpa Pickles monologuing about spider poison, and all ya do is flick it out and administer cure it's like nothing happened. From there, all Fear does is leap around, telegraphing his attacks, most of which aren't hard to avoid. And if ya have thermals, good night. Solution is simple, do something long term with the poison, and make the boss arena larger. Fuckers' name is 'The Fear. I should feel intimidated and unnerved, not knowing where this tosser's at. That kinda goes away when there's not many places he can hide. 11) Colonel Volgin (MGS3. Love Volgin as a villain 'cuz he's got no pretenses of 'misguided anti-hero. He's a full fledged asshole, but unlike Liquid, he's a more enjoyable asshole. That said, whichever game designer uttered the words "cage match" for this fight deserves to have a thick rubber band flicked at their twat. It completely ruined what could've been an amazing boss fight. MGS games weren't designed with action or head on combat. It's designed for more methodical, slower paced stealth action. Non lethally throwing Volgin to the ground repeatedly isn't just inane, it's boring. And trying to use weapons is borderline archaic. Solution? Lose the cage match idea, fire and wedgie the bellend who suggested it, and just fight Volgin across the entire hanger, and once again, dunno why I gotta keep repeating this, but implement stealth. 10) Revolver Ocelot (MGS1. Yeah, yeah, iconic, Ocelot, blah blah blah. It's very easy to have fun with this fight if ya use cover. It's not very long, but it's functional. Problem is, all y'er doin' is runnin' in a sodding square for two minutes, and it becomes very easy to just run and shoot constantly. BTW, this is the first boss fight in a game where y'er supposed to be using stealth and combat is s'posed to be a last resort. So why can't I use stealth against this twat? It isn't hard. It isn't complex. And I don't care about all the delicious taunts Ocelot gives, that doesn't make this actual fight fun. Solution? Make the bloody arena bigger, and let us actually use stealth, like having to seek Ocelot out and shoot him before he spots us. Have those cover and ricochet mechanics, but use a bigger arena with more cover spots and hiding spots. That degree of disconnect between gameplay and boss fights isn't good game design IMO. Bosses should be informed on the game at large, not rely on gimmicks that won't ever come up in the main game again. 9) Liquid Snake (MGS1. Again, iconic, and it's the final boss, whatever. This has the potential to be fun. Problem is, IMO, it ain't. The CQB of MGS1 wasn't good at all. Hit detection was bollocks, especially in this fight where Liquid will stand still, but if you hit him wrong, either he'll just move out of the way, or you'll land a shot, but miss the combo, then get hit by an unavoidable combo of Liquid's. And TBH, just doing one bloody thing all fight long is fucking boring. I don't enjoy this fight, and whatever challenge it poses comes from the shit CQB controls and stiff movement, not the actual fight. Solution? Just fucking stop doing these shirtless fist fights at the end of every game in the Solid trilogy, FFS. What do they have to do with stealth? Why is the final boss completely unrelated to all the skills I've learned all game long? Why is the MSX final boss of Metal Gear 2 infinitely better than a game that came out 8 years later on a better console? 8) Vamp (MGS4. Here's an example of diminishing returns on cheap gimmicks in Metal Gear games. A dull boss battle against a vicious villain where the challenge isn't the boss, but figuring out how to kill him. Problem is, once you know the truth, what is the challenge? Ya just shoot Vamp nonstop for two minutes, then he's dead. Then ya plug his neck meat with a syringe, and that's it, make way for yet another fucking split screen moment where the non-interactive half is way more eventful than the tedious Suicide Gecko part. Solution? Have the stupid sodding gimmick, but do more with the bloody boss fight! Give Vamp more moves, have more stages where ya can't just shoot him constantly. Even MGS2 gave him the shadow piercers or the part when he's bullet proof. And let us shoot his sodding blades. I didn't even like his boss fight in MGS2, and it still ran laps around his mediocre MGS4 battle. There's a way to add stealth to the Vamp fight. If ya kill him, and hide, then Vamp will search for you. Do somethin' with that, where Vamp's impervious, and ya gotta get the drop on him. Why do I gotta keep asking for stealth for boss fights in a stealth series? I feel like Mugatu taking crazy pills here! XD 7) The Man on Fire Horseback Chase (MGSV. I love the actual Man on Fire boss. But the Awakening encounter is absolute bollocks, and pisses on my salad. If people wonder why I'm salty about MGS4, missions like Awakening are textbook examples, and nowhere is that more present than Man on Fire's boss. He's chasing Venom and Ishmael all across the hospital, so naturally, none of it is interactive, and when it finally does become interactive, all ya do is jump out of a fucking window, then have yet another piss in my cereal rail shooter. One that's mercifully short and visually great, but functionally, what the fuck is the point if it's so brief and impossible to lose? Solution? Go full fucking Outlast in Awakening. Have that bullshit horseback chase, but have the parts where Man on Fire is chasing you actually interactive throughout the Hospital, and give the player options for dispatching Man on Fire each time. It literally baffles my brain hole when people say this is the best mission in MGSV. Fuck Awakening for being everything wrong with MGS and for compromising what could've been a truly nail biting boss chase. 6) Raging Raven (MGS4. Pretty much everything about Vamp but slightly duller, since Raven has more HP and even longer wind up for attacks, of which, she has fewer than Vamp. I don't know what KojiPro were thinking when they made this fight take place on a narrow tower top, but Jesus was this a terrible location for a boss fight, let alone an areal one. Chryslias works as well as it does 'cuz ya had that entire Mayan Ruins to hide across, and Chrysalis itself was masked by the mist. Solution? Pretty obvious, a much larger boss arena with more destructible cover spots and buildings, and have Raven and her flock tear through them physically, not just with her grenade launcher. The part reaching the top when she's flying in and out of walls was way more intense than the actual battle. 5) Null (MPO. This fight is perhaps the single most disappointing part about MPO. It had all the makings of a truly epic boss fight, one that, despite the terrible controls of MPO, could've been one of the best in the series. A one on one wide range battle against an overwhelmingly powerful enemy. Epic. Soooo naturally, ya can't implement stealth in any way, and Null always knows y'er fucking position and deflects every shot, high or low and knows every trap you lay out. So, instead of utilizing the massive Substation or even the Silo Entrance, ya just end up sticking to one little crate, and walk in a slow circle around it, waiting for Null to shoot 3 times, then shooting him every time he reloads. Solution? Cut out the constantly fixed on your position bollocks. Implement the ability to shake Null off and have him actively seek you out. So you can use traps. So you can hit him from behind. End result? One of the best sodding fights in MGS then and there, despite its' simplicity. 4) Lt. Cunningham (MPO. I loved Cunningham. I thought he was a great character and he left one of the most immediately imposing first impressions a villain ever left. He was a merciless brute, and a surprisingly cunning one at that, the ham. So, naturally, he's a slightly more advanced hover trooper in his boss fight, and a tedious one at that. Honestly, I dunno who keeps insisting Metal Gear bosses do away with stealth and take place on narrow areas, but that person needs to just stop. There's no complexity to Cunningham's boss fight. Just keep shooting his craft, then shoot him when he lowers. And his attacks aren't especially hard to dodge. And go figure, a brute isn't fought physically. I had more fun fighting other players who used Cunningham online than I did the actual boss. This fight is tedious and a complete insult to an otherwise strong villain. Solution? Bugger off with that entire boss fight, have one take place in the actual underground fortress, like that whole arena is perfect for a mano-y-mano showdown, and give Cunningham a few weapons and traps. Have him swap between his laser and his M60, and have him occasionally lob those mousy traps and grenades. And, for the billionth time, stop not including stealth, goddammit. 3) Sniper Wolf (MGS1. I'll never get this obsession with Sniper Wolf. She has one 8 minute sob story after she's been lung shot, and somehow, she's an amazing character despite none of her three other scenes before that hinting at this amazing character? Nah, I don't buy it. I especially don't buy her as the best of anything Metal Gear related, especially boss fights. I fucking hated her sniper battles, the first one especially. Sniping in MGS1 is absolute bollocks. First, Snake immediately lays down, and aims like a 90 year old with arthritis, and every single time he's shot, his scope jerks like a motherfuck, and ya gotta slowly aim all over again. This is a boss fight where everything about MGS1's controls and mechanics are working against you. And the second fight might have that nikita bollocks, but that just makes the fight even more boring and now, consequence free. IMO, Sniper Wolf was a shit boss through and through, and an overrated boss character on top of that. Solution? Well, TTS had better sniping, but the fight still sucked. So, I'd say the solution is do away with that border bollocks where if ya move too far out, ya immediately get shot. Have more vantage points and hiding points, and don't have Wolf always know your location. Sniping is the epitome of stealth action. The End, Crying Wolf, and Quiet all did it right. How the first one completely buggered it up is beyond me. 2) Metal Gear Rex (MGS1. This boss fight plays out one of two ways. Either ya constantly toss chaffs and shoot rockets at the Radome, then Liquid, with absolutely zero deviation from that pattern in either phase of the fight. Or, ya try and outrun rockets and see how fucked the controls are when the missiles become impossible to outrun 90% of the time, and eat away at your Rations if ya made the mistake of trying to aim when the rockets started flying. Worse yet, the Stinger is buggered during this fight, cuz it takes for-fucking-ever to lock on half the times, and by the time it does, Rex is already peeing rockets. Solution? You guessed it. Fucking stealth, goddammit! Here's the crazy part, stealth actually is in this fight. You can use chaffs to scramble Rex, then hide, and it'll actually not know where you are. But here's the thing, the arena is so damn small that in order to even be in the line of sight for Rex's weakpoints, you have to be in its' line of sight. So again, stealth, and make the arena bigger. Boom, problem solved, and instead of a frustrating slog, ya have an excellent and tense boss fight that works within the limitations of the PS1's controllers. 1) Fortune (MGS2. I mean, should it even count as a boss fight when literally all ya do is stand stock still for a minute, then move to another place to stand stock still for another minute? And again, why is this taking place in such a tiny arena? It's brief. It's underwhelming in every sense of the word. And it completely buggers what should've been a brilliant combo for an amazing boss encounter. Fortune is, now and forever, the single most piss poor excuse for a boss fight to ever stain the MGS series. Solution? Sooo many things. Obvious one is make the arena much bigger. Do the Speed Buster thing from No More Heroes where the objective isn't to fight, but to reach the enemy, all the while avoiding devastating blasts from her shopping cart canon or in Fortune's case, her railgun. Have us time our movements to go from cover to cover as we try to reach Fortune or a certain area, instead of waiting on an elevator. And have crates be much weaker, so only one or two blasts is all it takes. Towards the end of the boss fight, have Fortune go batshit and start blasting the ceiling so debris and shit starts falling and creating obstructions via fuel fires or rubble, or darkening the arena. As it stands, Fortune going nuts is all for show. As is the entire boss fight. Looks amazing, plays like ass. Dishonorable Mentions: The Tanks (PW. Yeah, they're dull and the extra op battles are a slog. They are perfectly functional, however, and allow for stealth and other creative means of beating the main mission ones. So, I don't really consider them the worst. Eli (MGSV. I actually really like this boss fight. I just hate that I gotta work against that bullshit QTE bollocks, cuz using the in-game CQC instead is way more fun. I wish this fight was implemented against a different enemy, preferably one where you could use lethal ammo against him, and that they had more HP. Shagohod (MGS3. I actually dislike this boss more than Volgin, looking back, but it's perfectly functional, and also really brief. It's just dull as shit, and the first half is legitimately terrible 'cuz it's once again on rails and Eva is about as reliable a driver as a drunken chimpanzee on Quaaludes. PW. Everything about this boss fights works really well, except one 's sodding great wall of HP, which turns an otherwise excellent boss fight into the epitome of grindy. Python (MPO. Same bollocks as Null, only Python is way more functional since ya don't gotta rely on waiting for him to reload to hit him. Problem is, he always knows your position, and the mist / arena would've been perfect for a hunter stealth boss.

Playmobil the movie dvd. Let me preface this by saying that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is, so far, one of my favorite film franchises. Up until very recently, Guardians of the Galaxy was my #1 favorite film of all time. However, as much as I love this franchise, it may be the worst thing to happen to film in recent memory. Everything that makes the MCU great is also what makes it terrible. They're both critically and financially successful, and studios are now clinging to that and less original films are being made in favor of cinematic universes. They're also missing what made Iron Man successful in the first place: it was a damn good film made with minimal studio interference, and delivered a very different and unique tone. Now every studio is doing the opposite, meddling and trying to replicate that exact tone. As long as the MCU is successful, we're going to keep getting shitty knockoffs. Just look at all of the cinematic universes that are now in development: the Scooby-Doo cinematic universe, the Lego cinematic universe, the Playmobil cinematic universe, the Ghostbusters cinematic universe, the King Arthur cinematic universe, the Hasbro cinematic universe, the Godzilla cinematic universe, and that's just off the top of my head. And it's not going to stop there, for sure. I'll be damned if The Emoji Movie doesn't have 6 or 7 sequels in the works. Again, this is not an assessment of the MCU's quality, it's an assessment of its impact. Feel free to discuss your opinions. I'm curious to see if my opinions are shared or if it's just me. TL;DR: Good franchise, shitty impact. Discuss.

First up was Playmobil: The Movie in a season where the standards have been set for animated entertainment by “The Lego Movie” and “Frozen, ” i don't think "Playmobil: The Movie" is up to speed. in its meandering, low-key way, it seems destined more for a future on home video, right in those packages that come with an extra toy. many movies have inserted cartoon characters into the real world, but usually while still representing them as cartoons. in “Playmobil, ” there are real people transported to a cartoon world, although they seem perfectly fit to be in a cartoon to begin with. when the laws of the physical universe as we know them are fundamentally violated, shouldn't it be for more earthshaking purposes than a pair of siblings that are feuding? Marla (Anya Taylor-Joy) is a free spirited high school graduate who, instead of going to college, wants to go out and explore the world. she expresses these dreams to her little brother, Charlie (Gabriel Bateman) who seems especially nosy about her new passport. as soon as these characters broke out into song, i knew i was in trouble. none of the advertisements for this movie lent any indication that it was going to be a musical. oh, i can tolerate song numbers, but only when the movie earns them. within the first 5 minutes we are already succumbed to one that is out of place, especially when its followed by a scene of police officers revealing that Marlas parents have gotten into an accident. cant the writers think of anything else to keep the parents off screen? a vacation, maybe? or a wedding anniversary? why does it always have to be death? four years pass, and Marla has turned bitter, ruining the kinship that her and Charlie had. one night, Charlie sneaks out to visit a toy museum with a Playmobil exhibit. after Marla arrives and scolds him, a lighthouse illuminates over them, and they are magically transported to the Playmobil world. Marla and Charlie find themselves in the middle of a viking battle, and Charlie helps them until he is kidnapped by a group of pirates. frantic to find her brother, Marla goes to the nearest town hoping to ask for help, and runs into Del (Jim Gaffigan) the driver of a food truck who also happens to be a businessman selling enchanted haystacks. i guess anything goes in this universe. cars are able to evaporate and teleport elsewhere in the numerous subdivisions that exist. later on, Marla and Del run into Rex Dasher (Daniel Radcliffe) a secret agent who reports that a number of characters in the Playmobil world have gone missing. the group sneaks into a villainous spy headquarters to find information about the disappearances. meanwhile in Constantinopolis, Charlie has been locked up with other characters by Emperor Maximus (Adam Lambert) who intends to have the prisoners fight to their deaths. one of the captures is an alien crime lord, who decides, after they've been locked in a cell for heaven knows how long, to use her zapping powers on the guards. remember, if you have an easy way out, wait until it's convenient to the plot. some of the characters in this universe are hilarious, while others are flat. and the combination of animation and live action falls a notch below state of the art. the look of the production is fresh and, at times, even thrilling, but for the film to work, it has to make this artificial world entertaining, and it never does. how could a universe with cowboys, aliens, fairy godmothers, and robots possibly be anything other than fun? the movie lacks a port of entry for consistence, which might be part of the problem. for example, Rex Dasher is pretty much the branded character, and each advertisement makes him out to be the lead, yet he's wiped out of the plot just as fast as the other background characters are. this galaxy-bending ought to be the movie's crowning achievement but unfortunately, it's short on originality and thus, undermining to its intentions. the movie was directed by Lino DiSalvo, who was previously a supervising animator on a number of Disney movies. he has all the skills needed for animation, but very little when it comes to conveying a story with at least some subtlety and depth and pacing. yes, the story may have certain morals, and yes, it's heart may be in the right place, but it fails to execute it in a way that we care about. it's no "Lego Movie. but then again, not many movies are. they were able to make lightning strike twice with the sequel to "Lego. but here they seem to be asking for a full storm. i sat watching the movie and was at a loss for an entry point. it doesn't play on two levels, but just on one: shrill nonstop action. that doesn't mean it lacks humor and charm, just that it pitches itself on that level of instead of trying to move it beyond the target audience. the movie is too lightweight to get scornful at, but also too needlessly desperate to warrant even the slightest recommendation to younger viewers. they will most likely be unmoved, if not to say indifferent. just like playing with the line of toys, your reaction to "Playmobil: The Movie" may ultimately be proportional to your advance expectations. next up was Dark Waters Todd Haynes' Dark Waters" is a film that is deeply scathing and remarkably luminous. we have all heard about the water crisis in Flint one way or another, but it's bracing to have all the details listed out in such a tightly constructed narrative. it builds, and the complications draw it even tighter. but you're conscious of how the film is setting you up. it all begins with the numb grief of a corporate defense attorney, Robert Bilott (Mark Ruffalo) in 1998. one day at the office, farmer Wilbur Tennant (Bill Camp) an acquaintance of Robert's grandmother, arrives with boxes of videotapes, urgently requesting Robert's assistance. Robert doesn't have time for him, but later drives out to his home town of Parkersburg, West Virginia, to see the disgruntled farmer. Wilbur shows him evidence, from video tapes he's made to remaining cow parts, of how all 190 of his cows have died, showing signs of bizarre and strange disease. he knows it has to do with the huge company DuPont, who has a plant in town, since his brother had been working for them disposing of waste. Robert asks his boss, Tom Terp (Tim Robbins) if he can take the case, assuring him it will be a small side project. Tom reluctantly agrees. Robert files a small suit so he can gain information through legal discovery of the chemicals that have been dumped on the site. He doesn't find anything useful, then realizes it's possible that whatever poisoned Wilbur's cattle could be something that isn't even regulated by the EPA. he is eventually able to legally force DuPont to turn over its information, which it does, sending him hundreds of boxes of documents hoping he'll never find anything. the joke is on them, because Robert finally finds reference to a chemical called PFOA. in the middle of the night, Robert's pregnant wife Sarah (Anne Hathaway) finds him tearing the carpet off the floors and going through their pans. he tells her they're being poisoned, and she thinks he's gone mad, until he explains what he's found in the DuPont documents: PFOA-C8 is a man-made chemical used in the production of Teflon. it was created for army tanks, but then used by companies in American homes. DuPont was running tests of the affect of it for decades, including on animals and on their own employees. their studies showed that it caused cancer in animals, people, and birth defects in babies of women working on their line. they then dumped hundreds of gallons of toxic sludge upriver from Wilbur's farm. not a word was said. this man is all in. Bilott was an attorney who gave up almost everything, including his life, to find and fight for the truth. we watch as the stress of doing the right thing for his client requires him to take reductions in pay because he's spending all his time on a case that has no paying client. we watch him feel the pain as his clients deteriorate because of the poison. in the meantime, because of the court's slow processes, Dupont was putting roadblocks at every turn. any case that was filed against them, they easily crumpled and threw over their shoulder. to try and cover up their tracks, they sent a letter to Parkersburg residents telling them that there is PFOA in the water but in safe amounts. Robert feels disconnected from his milieu. his physical body may be present, but the mind housed in that body is somewhere else. he is taught never to take anything at face value, since every action and inaction, at the end of the day, is profit-motivated. in Goliath's eyes, Robert is David, no different from the farmer with the dead cows. "Dark Waters" is about a changed man's crusade against a Goliath in the chemical industry, and his promise to take care of the people they knowingly poisoned. the corporate giant expected Bilott to back down. they didn't count on the lawyer having the wherewithal and perseverance to chip away at the thirty-five-hundred unsettled cases, one plaintiff at a time. the courtroom becomes his safe house. a sea of conjecture is used here to weave a persuasive tapestry out of an overwhelming mountain of evidence and testimony. Haynes, along with screenwriters Matthew Michael Carnahan and Mario Correa, have somehow triumphed over the tumult of material here and made it work, made it grip and disturb us. Ruffalo gives a measured yet passionate performance, and while Hathaway is squirming and hyperkenetic, she has a reason to be. the point is not whether Bilott's theories are right or wrong. what the film supports is simply his seeking for a greater truth. "Dark Waters" is a very good reflection of our unease and paranoia, our restless dissatisfaction. on that level, it is completely factual. for all we know, it could still be going.

But where is my electric boxster/cayman? You know Porsches “budget” car. Oh and offer a conversion of our existing Porsches. Playmobil: the movie 2019 imdb dvd. Playmobil: The movie. Hey everyone! First of all, thanks again for participating in the league. The drafts all went really smoothly and it looked like there were some fun movie discussions in there as picks were made, which is really what has brought us all together. With the drafts all but wrapped up (just waiting on /u/reservoirdogma to make her last flop pick) I wanted to give everybody an update on what the next phase of the league will look like. Now that drafted teams are locked in, free agency and trades can officially begin. Any film that has been released to theaters prior to today can no longer be added to your team, but any unreleased film is available if you want to make a change to your squad. Just as reminder, there is a 10 million penalty to drop a film from your team that has yet to be released and a 40 million penalty to drop a film from your team if it has already been released (call it a marketing write off for a shelved film, if you want to keep kayfabe-you all are heads of your own studios, after all. If you want to drop/add a film, just make a post about it here in the subreddit and tag me in it. That way, everybody in your league can see which film is no longer available, which film you've made available, and I'll be sure to see it and make the change on the scorekeeping spreadsheet. Same goes for trades-you can propose or negotiate them in the subreddit or over DM if you'd like, but be sure to make a post confirming the trade in the subreddit (with me tagged) and with both parties posting to confirm that they agree to the terms. We'll have our supplementary draft in early/mid August, probably right before Venice and Telluride. That draft will be two picks, both of them hits, and will go in reverse snake order from the first draft. So if you had the 8th overall pick in the initial draft, you'll have the first and last pick in August, 7th pick will now have second and second to last, and so on down the line. I've updated everybody's picks on the scorekeeping document linked in the sidebar. Thanks to an excellent Excel spreadsheet provided by /u/PeriodicGolden, I'll be able to quickly and easily track all the minutia of the scores from my computer, and I'll post them into that online document as soon as they start getting locked in. I'll shoot for a couple of weeks after release for reviews in case there are any stragglers, and I'll post box office totals after receipts have slowed down to the point where a film breaking another million barrier is unlikely. If anybody has any questions, feel free to ask any time. And now, just for fun, some facts and figures about the drafts: Disney properties accounted for almost 70% of the first round picks. I for one welcome our new mouse overlords. -As we learned during Podback Mountcast, nobody ever really knows what to expect from a new Ang Lee film, and our drafts bore that out. Gemini Man was picked as a flop in three leagues and as a hit in three leagues, making it the most divisive film of the season. -I hope Disney got a discount on the X-Men properties, because both Dark Phoenix and New Mutants were flop picks in all four leagues. -Flop picks that I'm pretty sure don't exist: Arctic Dogs (really wish they had called it Cold Dogs and made it part of the Walt Becker-verse) The Kid, I Hate Kids, Doom: Annihilation. -Flop picks that shouldn't exist: Playmobil: The Movie. I mean, jeez. -I always enjoy it when a team ends up resembling a conceivable film studio, so shout out to /u/lukekirby44 (four Disney films and two horror films. u/piemanpie24 (50% horror films, plus Sonic the Hedgehog which sure looks horrifying. u/MveeW (five remakes/sequels. and /u/dasaff1 (two Disney films, two films centered around British classic rock, and The Kid Who Would Be King, which is a Disney-esque film centered around a classic British thing stuck in a rock) for creating teams that mesh well together.

1:04 you just crossed the line madam. Worst year for theater animation Promare would like a word with you. Hello! And welcome to your draft thread for the Blankies Fantasy Movie Studio League. We ended up having enough demand to run four leagues, and thanks to the magic of a random number generator, you all are in League 1. This will be your draft thread. Please post the film you'd like to add in this thread and then tag the person who has the pick after you so they know they are up. The draft order will be as listed below and will go snake style, so the person who has the last pick of round one will then immediately have the first pick of round two, and round two will continue in reverse order until we get back to the top of the draft, at which point it starts working its way back down. Each team needs to end up with four hits and two flops, although you do not have to pick them in that order. The 2019 in Film wikipedia page. is a good place to start when looking at what films are eligible to draft. Films that have already been released in 2019 are eligible to be drafted if you'd like to add a sure thing to your slate. Also note that just because a film isn't on this list doesn't mean you can't add it. If you want to take a chance on something that doesn't have an official release date or find something so small that it hasn't been added to wikipedia, go for it! Good luck to everyone, and I hope you all have a great time! u/lukekirby44 has the first pick. Playmobil: the movie movie trailer

After the huge success LEGO had at the box office with films such as 'The Lego Movie' and 'The Lego Batman Movie' the in some ways similar German toy brand 'Playmobil' announced production on their very own first cinematic adventure, in honour of the toy line's 45th anniversary.
When her younger brother Charlie (Gabriel Bateman) unexpectedly disappears into the magical, animated universe of PLAYMOBIL, unprepared Marla (Anya Taylor-Joy) must go on a quest of a lifetime to bring him home. As she sets off on a fantastic journey across stunning new worlds, Marla teams up with some unlikely and heroic new friends - the smooth-talking food truck driver Del (voiced by Jim Gaffigan) the dashing and charismatic secret agent Rex Dasher (voiced by Daniel Radcliffe) a wholehearted misfit robot, an extravagant fairy-godmother (voiced by Meghan Trainor) and many more. Through their vibrant adventure, Marla and Charlie realise that no matter how life plays out, you can achieve anything when you believe in yourself.
Admittedly, this film looked like a bad idea from the start, looking too much like a cheap knock-off of any of those Lego-movies, with a smaller budget, coming from a smaller studio. Also, Playmobil isn't as big of a brand as LEGO is and with no brand awareness, how do you start promoting this worldwide? The film though, borrowing gags from other franchises such as 'Star Wars. a clear nod to Jabba the Hutt in form of Glinara; James Bond' look-a-like Rex Dasher; a colosseum warrior battle such as in 'Thor: Ragnarok' and a fairy wonderland in the likes of 'Shrek' isn't as bad as initially presumed. Luckily, the demographic this is intended for - 4 to 10-year olds - has a wild imagination, and with worlds such as "City of the Future" and "Dino Jungle" their magical fantasies are coming true on the screen.
The crew who worked on Disney's 'The Princess and the Frog' and 'Home on the Range' wrote this live action/animation-hybrid adventure musical, taking a little bit too much time to get to the final big battle to get our siblings back to the real world, which could challenge the smallest of children to stay seated. The constant action and sugared colour palette will for sure give parents a sugar rush they'll need to recover from, but most modern animated shows are way worse in terms of hyperactive screaming and fart-jokes. At least most of the jokes in 'Playmobil: The Movie' are enough thought through to make this enjoyable for both kids and their parents.
What might surprise audiences, is the musical aspect of the film. There's about six very catchy songs, sung by the voice actors themselves, with the very first song performed in the real world by Anya Taylor-Joy (Glass) which reminded me of Lizzie McGuire, with a bubbly attitude, dreaming of traveling and exploring the world. The songs fit perfectly in the story and usually get performed when we enter a new section of the ever stretching make-believe world of Playmobil. The voice actors aren't known for their singing - besides Adam Lambert (who is having so much fun being overly theatrical with his voice) and Meghan Trainor - but do a decent job at making it their own.
The clear message of being able to achieve anything, as long as you believe in yourself is a bit on the nose, but this doesn't take away the fact that this harmless effervescent story will appeal to many kids with dreams such as Marla's. The film screams to be made into a franchise, let's just hope they learn from their shortcomings and the mistakes other toy brands have made before when taking the Hollywood-path.

This past weekend, Toronto held their usual regionals in a smaller city in Scarborough, but the turnout was still around the same (around 350+ players. Toronto regionals usually have a lot of top players so I would've been pretty happy getting my invite but I ended up getting 2nd place, with my only loss being Dominic Couch. I was confident I would do well at this event with this deck because I had previously gotten 15th at a regionals with Trains, and almost made top 32 at YCS Niagara with it (lost my final match in Day 2. 2nd Place Decklist: Image: 15th Place Decklist: Final Standings: Thoughts on the deck: Before I begin, I want to first say I did not come up with the idea of including Sky Strikers into Trains. I don't know who started it, but my decklist is based off decklists by Thomas Barrass and Austin Bare, who have been testing this variant for months and are both really good Train players with their own regional tops. As for the deck itself, I decided to switch from the Shaddoll Version of the deck to the Sky Striker build for a few reasons. Before we got Anger Knuckle, Trains did not have a very good grind game and couldn't really play past Turn 2. The Train playstyle was, and still is to an extent, a straight OTK deck that breaks boards and OTKs the opponent. With Anger Knuckle being released, Trains now have a surprisingly good grind game, being able to recycle resources at the end of every turn. The Shaddoll engine is very strong because Shaddoll Fusion lets you special summon a Level 10, as well as drawing a card or popping a backrow for free. While the Shaddolls are very explosive, drawing the two bricks you have to run, especially in an important game, can be game-losing in a deck that needs to make use of every resource to play through established boards. I found the Striker engine much more consistent and versatile, and at times even stronger because Engage is a really broken card and the Striker engine is so strong individually. Especially in big events, consistency is crucial. With the Toon Table engine as well, this build just has so much synergy with each other. Toon Table gets you 3 spells into the grave for Engage and nets you an EMZ removal into a level 10 Megafleet. One Engage turns into drones + removal and a draw 2. Drones turns into either Anger Knuckle or Kaina that allows you to special summon Derricrane and Super Bullet from hand without a normal summon. It's crazy. The Sky Striker engine also allows Trains to go first now in case the opponent makes us go first, which happens a lot. Many times I would OTK my opponent Game 1, which they would then make me go second Game 2. Bare minimum, you can end on standard Striker board with Shizuku, Shark Cannon and Widow. If I drew crazy however, I could then end on Shizuku + Dora with a Derricrane, with a Multirole, Shark Cannon, Widow Anchor, Urgent Schedule and a set Engage. They have to deal with the backrow first because if they get rid of Dora first, my backrow become live. Then they have to go through a 4k defense unaffected Dora with a quick effect Derricrane pop. If they get through that, I can Urgent Schedule whenever to block attacks that nets me two resources at end phase if the monsters are destroyed. If they get rid of Urgent Schedule, I can search for a level 10 or a Kaiju. Then on my turn, I have a Megafleet + Rank 10 play with a set Engage searching spot removal or Eagle Booster. It's nuts. Matchups: Round 1: Danger Orcust! 2-0 W) Not much to say here. Opponent was fairly new to the deck and forgot a few of his Orcust effects in grave so he ended sub-optimally and I just OTK'd. Game 2 I felt bad because I sniped 6 of his Dangers and he ended on a Snek. I proceeded to OTK him. His dice was probably cursed. Round 2: Lunalight Orcust (2-0 W) Game 1 he ended on a board of 4 negate Apollousa, Galatea and Dingirsu with a set Crescendo. I activated Toon Table, which he had to negate with Crescendo or I would Megafleet his Apollousa. I Urgent Schedule, normal summon NEK, make Liebe and attack into Galatea 4 times for game. Game 2 he ended on Curious and Evilswarm Nightmare. I widow anchored his Nightmare and popped his Curious to try and go for game. He added back a milled Nibiru and Nibiru'd my field so I passed. He was out of resources however so he scooped on his turn. Round 3: Heroes (2-1 W) Unfortunately, I faced a very good friend of mine. We practice together at locals every week. Game 1 he bricks going first so I OTK him. Game 2 he makes me go first. I end on Anger Knuckle + Dora with Multirole, Widow Anchor, Shark Cannon and Engage. Thought I had it in the bag but he Evenly Matches me cause he knows my build. I couldn't kill him on my turn because he blocked with mask change defense mode Dark Law and he OTKs me with Bane and Decimator. Game 3 he opens with double Dark Law and Dystopia. Unfortunately for him, I had Dark Ruler No More so I was able to clear his entire board. Couldn't game him because I got Niburu'd. With limited resources, he Twin twisters his own Increase, discarding Honest Neos to empty his hand and draw 2 with Celestial in grave. Unfortunately, he drew 2 Called by the Graves and he couldn't get over a 5. 5k Nibiru and I won the game. I felt bad but I know mans have been grinding hard for his invite so I was confident he could get it this time. He eventually got 13th at the end of the event. Congratulations Miguel. Round 4: Timelords (2-0 W) Game 1 he made me go first. I ended with Shizuku with Multirole and Widow Anchor. I was ready to be OTK'd by Gren Maju when he summoned Michion. I was surprised a Timelords deck was 3-0, but respects to him for it. I widow Michion on my turn, pop with Derricrane and OTK. Game 2 I set Urgent Schedule and passed. He twistered my Schedule and I searched a Jizukiru. He special summoned Time Maiden and tributed to search for Michion. He normaled Michion and tried to use Maidens effect in grave to summon another Michion but you can't special any other monsters the turn you use that effect, which was Maiden. I kaiju'd his Michion and proceeded to OTK. Round 5: Sky Striker Orcust (2-0 W) Round 5 was against a very good player in John Wilkin (his channel is here: so I was a bit nervous. But I knew he was playing Striker Orcust and I built this deck to have a good matchup VS it. Game 1 he bricked, set harp horror and passed. I did the standard Gustav, pop with Derricrane into Liebe OTK. Game 2 he made me go first. I ended with Dora and passed. He couldn't get over Dora with a Derricrane so he ended on Galatea with Widow, Shark, Crescendo and Imperm. On my turn I Jamming Waves his Crescendo and proceed to make a Gangaridai. I target one of his backrow, detaching Derricrane. Now here's where he misplays. He flips Widow targeting my Dora. I chain Dora on himself and he imperms it and steals my Dora. Derricrane pops his remaining backrow which was a Shark Cannon. I overlay into Liebe and attack Galatea twice for game. Had he decided to Widow and take my Gangaridai, I would've been forced to make Liebe with a zero material Dora, meaning Liebe can only attack once and that wouldn't have been enough for OTK and probably would've died next turn. I guess this is the advantage of playing a rogue deck. He ended up getting 9th at this event. Round 6: Salamangreats (2-0 W) I absolutely dread this matchup. Other Train players say this matchup is so easy. I find it so hard. No matter what I stop, they always find a way to end on Rage, Roar and a hand trap. Also, I knew this guy was good because he beat me previously at another regional. Game 1 he only ended on Wolf + Baelynx and Roar. I cycloned Roar, he ashed my engage and I OTK'd with standard combo. I end with the monster board I posted above at the start. He couldn't break through it and I OTK'd on my turn. Round 7: Sky Striker Orcust (1-2 L) Round 7 was against Dominic Couch. He was my only loss for the event and it was a wild one. We got chosen for the feature match so we had a judge watching us the whole time. This is important later. Game 1 he bricked and set harp horror. I tried to do standard combo into OTK but my Derricrane was Skull Meister'd and couldn't pop his set. I also banished my Jamming Waves and Afterburners with Desires so I couldn't pop it. I run over it with Liebe and pass. He attempts to use Harp which I ash and he scoops. Game 2 he ends on a board of IP and Galatea and Babel. I summon Toon Cyber Dragon which forces him to use IP into Longirsu and send my Cyber Dragon away. He uses Orcust Knightmare targeting Galatea, sending World Wand and boosting its ATK by 800. I then make a Gangaridai and threaten to pop Babel. He activates skeleton to revive Dingirsu and attempts to send Gangaridai but I protect with Eagle Booster. Now here's where I misplay. My plan was to summon Gangaridai to force the Dingirsu. I should've went into Gustav because I had Eagle Booster as protection anyways. I also misplayed by using its effect to pop Babel and burn for 1000. I overlay into Liebe and attempt to enter battle. At this point, Dom niburus me. I pass turn and he proceeds to do standard orcust OTK and I scoop. It is at this point the judge realizes it was an illegal nibiru activation because he had used orcust effects already and stops the match. At this point, the event has been going on for around 8 hours and I've not eaten and was very tired. I didn't catch the illegal activation, Dom didn't catch it and the judge didn't. We pause for the head judge and they discuss over it for around 10 minutes. During this discussion, we were all under the impression I had game. Liebe twice into Galatea is usually enough for game. Eventually, the judge ruled that because I scooped and it was an irreparable game state, he was given the game win. However, after the match, I did the math. 1000 from Gangaridai and two attacks into Galatea at 2600 would only deal 7800 total. The proper play would've been to not use Gangaridai so Liebe can get 3 attacks into Galatea. I apologize Dom, had I done the math properly sooner, perhaps we could've avoided that whole mess. Game 3 he ended on Dingirsu in defense. I bricked with 3 field spells, drones and kaiju. I couldn't do much besides go for Hayate dump engage into Shizuku + Dora but I got niburu'd and OTK'd the next turn. He had Skull Meister and Ash so I wouldn't have been able to OTK anyways. Round 8: Thunder Dragons (2-0 W) Round 8 was against a friend of mine from locals. We always have really long games despite playing big beaters in our decks. Game 1 went for 34 minutes. We eventually reached a point where I was looping Pegasus, Super Bullet and Anger Knuckle while he only had 1 Titan left on field. Eventually, I resolved 3 Gustavs, 1 of which I recycled with Super Bullet to win game 1. Game 2 he bricked and couldn't do anything so I burned him for 500 with Ruffian in time and won. Definitely my hardest match of the event. Round 9: Sky Striker Orcust (2-0 W) Last match of the event, if I won I would be guaranteed top 4 so pressure was on. Game 1 he opened Dingirsu + Winda, which surprised me. Very lucky I had Widow in hand for the Winda. Went into standard OTK combo after that. I made a board of Shizuku, Multirole, Shark, Widow, Urgent Schedule and Engage. I widow Dark Grepher and Shark the Harp. He was still able to make Galatea and mind controlled my Shizuku. He decided to make Trisbaena to clear my backrow because he was afraid of multirole resetting everything, to which I chained Urgent Schedule. With no Babel and only Trisbaena, I went for OTK and won. Overall: I feel the deck performed really well. I've always been a fan of rogue decks and going second so getting 2nd with this deck made me pretty happy. I do feel I got super lucky at times throughout the event. I felt I always had the outs to the boards my opponents made, my opponents bricking at times which gave me a free game, opponents hitting the wrong targets, having good matchups and overall just drawing pretty perfect throughout the event. The few things I would probably change are Raye and Multirole to the side and getting rid of the Pankratops. I felt there were some things I wasn't able to say in the deck profile as I was really hungry and tired. Also I saw some interest from people on learning how to play Trains so I decided to make this Regionals Report post so feel free to ask any questions.

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE FILM OF THE PAST 5 YEARS. SUBLIME FILMMAKING. I am a simple man. I see Emma Watson, I click like. The Song of Names watch full episodes.

The Song of Names Watch full article on maxi. The Song of Names Watch full article on top. This movie is what we need, unfortunately none of the people now who really need to have their eyes and hearts opened wont see this movie. Omg yay! Emma Watson is in this, yus. Greetings again from the darkness. The title refers to a sacred Jewish ritual where the names of the Holocaust victims are recited in a musical style. It's a process that (sadly) covers a few days. In this film, it takes on a personal, as well as historical, significance. British cultural affairs expert Norman Lebrecht wrote the 2001 novel on which writer-director Francois Girard (THE RED VIOLIN, 1998, plus plays, operas and 2 Cirque de Soleil shows) and co-writer Jeffrey Caine based the film.
We open in 1951 London just minutes before the scheduled performance of young violin virtuoso Dovidl "David" Rapoport. He is to play Bruch and Bach in a concert sponsored by his "adoptive" father figure Gilbert Simmonds, who has sunk his entire life savings into producing the concert. Despite the assurances of Simmonds' son Martin, who has become like a brother to David, the featured performer is a no-show. leading Martin to search for him over the next 35 years.
The film covers the story from the time Dovidl's Polish-Jewish father (played by Jakub Kotynski) agrees to his leave 9 year old, a violin prodigy, with the non-Jewish Simmonds in an attempt to protect the boy from the German invasion of Poland in the late 1930's. As Dovidl and Martin grow together, their bond become stronger. Martin is present when Dovidl renounces Judaism, even as becomes more proficient with his instrument and more saddened by the Holocaust that he avoided in his home country.
Both boys are played at three different ages by three different actors. Dovidl is played by Luke Doyle at ages 9-13, Jonah Hauer-King at ages 17-23, and by Clive Owen in middle age. Martin is played by Misha Handley at ages 9-13, Gerran Howell at ages 17-23, and by Tim Roth in later life. The actors do a good job of capturing Martin's early irritation at Dovidl's arrogance, the shock of the no-show betrayal, and the later in life man who changed everything when he found out about his family, as well as the music teacher so desperate to find his long lost friend/brother.
The film bounces between the three timelines so that we have a full picture of the impact they have had on each other's lives, and how Dovidl's disappearing act was quite devastating. Much of the film centers on Martin tracking down leads and talking to folks for some idea of the path taken by Dovidl. Mr. Roth is especially effective (and surprisingly understated) in his performance as a man haunted by the unexplained actions of a loved one. His wife, played by Catherine McCormick, is simultaneously understanding, patient, and emotionally affected.
Stanley Townsend plays Martin's father. He cares for Dovidl as if her were a son, and provides what's necessary for the prodigy to develop and be groomed for performance. Three-time Oscar winner Howard Shore delivers a score that follows the good times and bad, not an easy task for a family drama within the shadow of the Holocaust. One specific sequence stands out, and it is filmed on the hallowed grounds of Treblinka - now a memorial, where the extermination camp once stood.
There are many facets to the story, and most involve heavy emotions. We see children bearing more than they should. Parents protecting their children in times of crisis. The difference between religion and ethnicity is discussed. Broken trust proves especially damaging. Dovidl's disappearing act could be compared to that of JD Salinger, in that he seemingly disappeared for years. And maybe most of all, the idea of survivor's guilt is a theme, as Dovidl explains, You don't have to be guilty to feel guilty." The film may have some pacing issues, but it affords such a wealth of conversation topics, that any flaws are easily forgiven.

"The Song of Names" directed by the wonderful François Girard, surpassed all of my expectations! The story is about the relationship two "brothers" and how that relationship changes over the years as the mystery unfolds. The score, by the great Howard Shore, expertly showcases the film's haunting, mysterious tone. Acting, directing and cinematography, to name a few, were all brilliant. Certainly worth a watch, even if just for the magnificent violin solos! The film catches your attention from the very first scene and leaves you wanting more after the shocking finale. I would recommend this film to musicians, as well as anyone who loves a good character-based mystery.

Oh my God yes finally a good film, I'm down.

The kind of movie that I'll be crying all the way through, pretending that I got popcorn in my eye. Stream it. Definitely. I like how Mr. Rogers was given a “Mary Poppins” like presence in the movie. It made him seem like he wasnt just a normal man with a show. Both about 20 and they fall in love. Everything is ridiculously perfect, but one day Minato drowns while trying to save someone from the ocean.
Hinako, understandably takes it pretty bad, but to her surprise, whenever she starts singing their favorite song, Minato's spirit appears in the closest body of water - be it a stream, the ocean, or a bottle of mineral water.
The whole story is really about Hinako, Minato's friends and family, and how they slowly but finally learn to "let go.
Of course, it's magical-realism, so in the end we get to witness some crazy action as well, where we surf down a skyscraper with our protagonists.
Unfortunately, this is not the most original story, the characters are a little two dimensional, and the filmmaking could've been a little braver.
It's fine though, the film looks really nice, colorful with constantly glowing orange hues and cool blues. The action looks fantastic as well and the environments feel very "lived in" and detailed. Seeing it on a big screen really adds to the experience.
It is also paced well, has some pretty funny moments, as well as a couple of quite moving ones.
Recommended if you manage to catch it screening somewhere, but not an essential viewing.
There.
Really not much else to say about it, but seeing the only other user review for this title is from someone who clearly has no idea what he's talking about, I wanted to add my two cents.

3-10-2016 อาจเคยไม่ดี แต่ไม่เคยหยุดรักมึง

After seeing The Star, I was not at all surprised with the typical production values of Sony Pictures Animation. Yeah its a pretty good follow up from the world's longest and most abysmal and unnecessary phone advertisement from earlier this year (You know what I'm talking about) but its still not a good film. We have a small donkey named Bo who yearns for a life beyond his daily grind at the village mill and one day he finds the courage to break free, and finally goes on the adventure of his dreams. On his journey, he teams up with Ruth, a lovable sheep who has lost her flock and Dave, a dove with lofty aspirations and embarrassing comic relief. Along with three wisecracking camels and some eccentric stable animals whom have no reason to exist except their only redeeming factors are they are voiced by A-list celebrities unlike the rest of the cast, Bo and his new friends, for some reason, become accidental heroes. There's absolutely nothing that stands out about this film because not only is this a story we have heard millions of times, but there are other films that have executed a better job at producing the animal version of The Nativity story such as Disney/Don Bluth's The Small One and the really weird and creepy but charming Rankin & Bass's Nestor The Long Eared Christmas Donkey. The film isn't as effective as it is supposed to be, because Mary & Joseph rely too much on the coincidental cartoonish animal rampages so they can get out of scary situations. The CGI animation is not bad at all, as the human characters look good whenever we have a chance to see them. The animal characters, when they're supposed to behave like the loony tunes, move too stiffly which can be a detriment to when providing comic relief in this movie. To those whom are having their "It's not a Pixar movie so it doesn't have to be good! rant, I can't really expect Sony to be Disney and Pixar at all because none of their films are as good and charming, well maybe except Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs and Hotel Transylvania (and I really do hope that Popeye turns out fine in the future if they ever get a chance to work on it) but I really do expect Sony to put time and effort into making good animated movies with small budgets, something that Illumination has done a much more sophisticated job of doing this lately. And to those who have their "It's a Christian movie so it doesn't have to be good" rant, I've seen better Christian movies than this. I recommend DreamWorks' Prince of Egypt (although its not a Christmas movie and this was when DreamWorks SKG use to make the best animated movies at the time) although its old, but it still hasn't lost any of its charm and nostalgia yet as I shall continue to wait for a theatrical release of a Christian Christmas movie that will turn out better than most Santa flicks.
. 9th December 2017) From looking at the likes to dislikes ratio on my review, as of today, 1 out of 7 people found it useful. Now for all the triggered SJWs who rated my comment down (and no I am not sorry for this review and won't change my words and rating. just because this film has Jesus in it, doesn't mean its automatically a good film. It's like adding Jesus as a comical cameo to an episode of South Park and calling South Park the number 1 best Christian TV show in the world. After producing many bad films in the past, I believe Sony Animation still has a chance to produce good movies if they ever bother to do so in the future.

Rewrite the Stars You know I want you It's not a secret I try to hide I know you want me So don't keep saying our hands are tied You claim it's not in the cards Fate is pulling you miles away And out of reach from me But you're here in my heart So who can stop me if I decide That you're my destiny? What if we rewrite the stars? Say you were made to be mine Nothing could keep us apart You'd be the one I was meant to find It's up to you, and it's up to me No one can say what we get to be So why don't we rewrite the stars? Maybe the world could be ours Tonight You think it's easy You think I don't want to run to you But there are mountains And there are doors that we can't walk through I know you're wondering why Because we're able to be Just you and me Within these walls But when we go outside You're going to wake up and see that it was hopeless after all No one can rewrite the stars How can you say you'll be mine? Everything keeps us apart And I'm not the one you were meant to find It's not up to you It's not up to me When everyone tells us what we can be How can we rewrite the stars? Say that the world can be ours Tonight All I want is to fly with you All I want is to fall with you So just give me all of you It feels impossible (it's not impossible) Is it impossible? Say that it's possible How do we rewrite the stars? Say you were made to be mine? Nothing can keep us apart 'Cause you are the one I was meant to find It's up to you And it's up to me No one can say what we get to be And why don't we rewrite the stars? Changing the world to be ours You know I want you It's not a secret I try to hide But I can't have you We're bound to break and my hands are tied.
